College of Computing
From research to venture.
The GR DeepTech Pitch Competition is part of how the GVSU College of Computing moves research out of the lab. If your work comes from a faculty lab, a funded project, or student research, the competition is a first step toward a company.
The path
Step 1: Start from the lab
Faculty research, funded projects, graduate theses, and student research are all welcome. If it works in the lab, it can be a pitch.
Step 2: Pitch it
Pitch Academy helps you turn a research result into a story about a customer, a problem, and a product.
Step 3: Test the market
Promising teams may be referred to I-Corps, the NSF program that helps researchers talk to customers and test whether their work can become a company.
Step 4: Fund the next step
Guidance toward SBIR/STTR and other non-dilutive federal funding, with College of Computing faculty alongside you.
I-Corps referral is not guaranteed and is not a competition prize. We help promising teams decide whether it fits.
For faculty and researchers
Why pitch your research?
Research with a second life
College of Computing research can reach people beyond a paper. The competition is a first step toward finding out who needs it.
Stronger grant stories
Customer conversations and a clear pitch strengthen broader-impact and commercialization sections of future proposals.
Students on real problems
Student build teams work on ventures grounded in faculty research, and faculty gain collaborators.
